Culinary Program Leads to Empoyment

Student Background

Ramon was an unmotivated high school student in 9th and 10th grade. During his junior year, he enrolled in the ROP Culinary Program and everything changed. His experiences in the culinary program provided him the motivation to do better in school. Ramon says "I even became nicer to my family!" He was very proud to be selected ROP student of the year for the culinary program.

Program Description

The culinary program is designed to give students an introduction to the world of foods by using both theory and hands-on experience in the field of culinary arts; including an introduction to the world of foods. Students will learn the importance of health and safety, fundamentals of food service procedures and preparation, proper use and care of equipment as well as job preparation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of effective communication and interpersonal skills, professional development, problem solving, safety, and job and career opportunities in the field.

Outcomes

Ramon learned how to write a resume, to focus, and gained business skills through the ROP that have put him on the path to success. He got a job as a dishwasher at a restaurant, earned his food handlers license and was promoted to line cook. He is going to become the kitchen manager soon. Ramon said, "I have my the ROP and my culinary teacher to thank for that."
