Culinary Program Cooks up Academic Success
Prior to enrolling in the Eden Area ROP Culinary Program, Leontay hated school.
The culinary program is designed to give students an introduction to the world of foods by using both theory and hands-on experience in the field of culinary arts; including an introduction to the world of foods. Students will learn the importance of health & safety, fundamentals of food service procedures and preparation, proper use & care of equipment as well as job preparation. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of effective communication and interpersonal skills, professional development, problem solving, safety, and job and career opportunities in the field.
The ROP has taught him both theory and hands-on experience in the field of culinary arts; including following instructions on hospitality, management, and cooking skills. It has helped him get his grades up, stay out of trouble, and learn about the culinary field. When he graduates from high school, he plans on attending the Art Institute of San Francisco to study Hospitality Management with the goal of owning his own restaurant someday. Overall, he discovered that working with his hands in culinary has helped him understand what he needs to do to become successful. He enjoys going to school each day and looks forward to his future.
