First-Hand Experiences Determine Medical Pathway
Watching her father work hard and sacrifice to support his family inspired Karin to stay focused on achieving her goals. She contacted her career specialist at Beckman High School and started her studies with Coastline ROP by enrolling in Emergency Medical Responder.
In Emergency Medical Responder, she learned first responder skills. She also learned from the personal testimony of her instructor who was able to share his first-hand experiences of working in the field. Her instructor's experiences motivated her to enroll in Medical Nursing Careers Internship, a class which includes an internship at a local hospital. While interning at the hospital, Karin said that she was able to connect and see the world through "the eyes of the patients."
The first-hand experiences and knowledge that Karin gained from her ROP classes confirmed that she wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. She currently attends Cal State University Fullerton as a biology major and plans to transfer to UCLA in the near future.
