Career Goals Become Reality
Nyeela lives in a single-parent household. She has epilepsy and was recently diagnosed with a mood disorder. She always loved to cook and even as a child, she wanted to be a chef.
The culinary program is designed to give students an introduction to the world of foods by using both theory and hands-on experience in the field of culinary arts. Students will learn the importance of health and safety, fundamentals of food service procedures and preparation, proper use and care of equipment as well as job preparation. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of effective communication and interpersonal skills, professional development, problem solving, safety, and career opportunities in the field.
Being a student in the culinary program has helped Nyeela find ways to deal with her epilepsy and better herself as a person. Everyday when she comes to ROP she knows she is preparing herself for the career she has always wanted. She has gotten two jobs because of this experience. She has also been able to participate in competitions that she would have never have done on her own. Nyeela stated, "I can honestly say without ROP, I don't know if I would be a success in the culinary business."
