Making Career Dreams a Reality
Before being enrolled in the Santa Barbara County Education Office ROP/CTE Graphic Design courses, Barrett Korber did not have any idea what graphic design even was. When he realized that people were able to make a living out of creating art that he saw in the world around him, it was the first time that he had ever experienced a real excitement for a career opportunity.
During his time in the ROP/CTE Graphic Design courses, Barrett was able to build a portfolio that was very impressive. The instructor of the ROP/CTE Graphic Design Courses, Scott Schaller, took the students to Laguna Beach for a portfolio day. This is where Barrett was pre-approved to attend the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
Shortly after graduating from the California College of the Arts, Barrett got a job at a small advertising agency called Oskoui+Oskoui in Los Angeles. He now works as a Junior Graphic Designer at BLT Communications in Hollywood.
Barrett states that none of this would have been remotely possible without his ROP/CTE Graphic Design Classes. He is grateful that, as a 16-year-old, he was able to find a career and that it proved to be invaluable to his future.
